FAQs about our foreign language solutions
Over the years, the language industry has grown and adapted to cover a wider and more complex range of services. We are often asked a number of questions about the language support services that we offer. Below is our FAQs, which will hopefully help answer some of your questions.
Frequently asked questions
Sometimes we will need to rush through specific items, what is the quickest turnaround time available from your company?
The turnaround time depends on the length and complexity of the content. It can get reduced as our translation team becomes familiar with the subject matter and the company-specific language. As an example, a few years ago we worked on the Parmalat prosecution case on behalf of an international investigative agency. A team of translators was on standby six days a week to translate any press articles from Italian language concerning Parmalat. All translations had to be ready by 1 pm GMT (i.e. 9 am New York time). We did this for the full term of the case without once missing a deadline.
Does this affect the price of translation?
Unlike some translation agencies, we do not charge a supplement for rapid turnaround.
Are there any languages which you are unable to offer?
All languages offered are performed by qualified native speakers who work exclusively into their mother tongue. Obviously, there are rare occasions when we have to say ‘no, we cannot provide that’. We believe it’s better to say no than to do a bad job.
Are any languages more expensive to translate than others?
The less common languages cost more. For example, the non-Indo-European languages and some Asian languages are more expensive to translate because they require greater skill and more time for translation. However we are happy to negotiate the cost of any language provided that we can still deliver the same quality of service at a fair price to all.
On average, what would be your ideal turnaround time for translations?
A good translator will translate approx. 2,000 words per day. This may increase as translators become familiar with the subject matter and the client terminology.
Are you able to offer a package price for translation services given that our client will be sending through a fairly large number of translations per year?
We would happily offer a package price for a larger amount of put-through per calendar month.
Do you use language technology to assist with translations? If so, as our clients’ word bank increases will the price to translate be reduced?
We build up client-specific database of terms and phrases that reoccur more frequently, which enables us to reduce the cost as the word bank grows.
